Contemplation

Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir
Iceland

My work has from the beginning of my career 45 years ago been figurative. The human condition in all it’s complexity has been a constant source of inspiration. The sculpture ‘Contemplation’ shows a frozen moment of contemplation, as if just before something happens or after it has happened. There is an in-between moment of neutrality. The figure is androgynous but still based on my son which brings it closer to me as a family. My work conveys the thought that we are all, as human beings, part of nature. Nature speaks to us on a profound level and the silent and beautiful Ash Walk in the forest has immense character. The figure becomes part of a silent conversation with it´s surroundings and the atmosphere in the forest, echoing the colour, texture and mood
